An activist from Egypt who spent days on Tahrir square has traveled to Dakar to attend the World Social Forum (WSF). Here she talks about how the revolution was started in Egypt, who the main organizers and supporters of the protest are, as well as emphasizing the secular nature and diversity of people involved in the call for President Mubarak to step. The WSF, the counterpoint to the World Economic Forum, is currently underway in Dakar, Senegal. Activists, academics and grassroots social movements from all over the world gather at the WSF to talk about issues of global and local importance, including, climate change, the financial crisis, freedom of expression and a wide range of other human rights concerns. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, also attended the WSF on Monday, 7 February 2011, where he said, "capitalism is dead."
Finally, SACSIS is also represented at the WSF this year by executive director, Fazila Farouk, who spoke at an alternative media forum organized by Ritimo, a French media organization that occasionally translates SACSIS' articles for consumption by their French audience.
